Steve Angello Drops Unreleased Tracks in His First Solo BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix Since 2013
Steve Angello returned to the BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix with a splash, delivering his first solo performance on the program since 2013. Over the course of two hours, the Swedish House Mafia member treated listeners to a series of unreleased tracks, including two of his own creations, showcasing a blend of new sounds and nostalgic influences.
As Swedish House Mafia continues its resurgence, Angello balances his commitments to the group with his solo projects and responsibilities at SIZE Records. His recent activities include the release of his latest single, “Hooligans,” and he teased that several more productions are poised for release.
During his Essential Mix, Angello debuted “Darkness In Me” featuring Modern Tales, a track characterized by its synth-heavy layers that build into a poppy vocal and lead, underpinned by driving bass and percussion. The sound carries echoes of the early Spiderman theme and classic spy movie scores, blending nostalgia with contemporary electronic music.
The second track, “You Can Dance” in collaboration with BRØMANCE, opens with a swirling lead and driving percussion, escalating with layers of synths and keys before a vocal sample cuts through, leading up to an energetic drop. While Angello has not announced release dates for these tracks, their inclusion in the mix suggests they may be available soon.
Fans can experience these new tracks and many others by tuning into Steve Angello’s BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix, available for streaming now.
