Dave Chappelle Announces New Netflix Stand-Up Special
Dave Chappelle has announced a new stand-up special coming to Netflix October 5, as Variety points out. The Closer marks the comic’s sixth special for the streaming platform. In a press release viewed by Variety, Netflix suggested that this will be Chappelle’s last special for the streaming website. Netflix’s synopsis for the special reads: “As he closes out his slate of comedy specials, Dave takes the stage to set the record straight—and get a few things off his chest.” Watch a teaser for The Closer below.
In 2020, Chappelle released a special called 8:46 on Netflix. The title refers to both the time of Chappelle’s birth and the amount of time the Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin knelt on George Floyd’s neck. Chappelle discussed the killing of Floyd in the special, as well as the protests that sprung up in its wake, the death of Kobe Bryant, and more.
Earlier this year, Chappelle’s Show returned to Netflix after being previously pulled at Dave Chappelle’s request. Shortly before its removal, Chappelle claimed he never got paid after leaving the Comedy Central show, saying he was “furious” that it was coming to Netflix.
