Hot Teknō and High Energy: KAAZE on Touring, Creativity, and What’s Next

Swedish DJ, producer, and songwriter KAAZE is making waves on his debut North American and Canadian tour, The RESONANCE Tour. Known for his electrifying combo of melodic, techno-fueled, and cinematic soundscapes, KAAZE performs on the biggest festival stages and in renowned superclubs worldwide. As he takes his powerful sound to iconic cities like Montreal, San Francisco, and New York, KAAZE brings a uniquely personal approach to each show. In this interview, we dive into the creative pulse of the tour, his dynamic performance style, and what fans can expect next from this rising luminary of electronic dance music.

The RESONANCE Tour is taking you across iconic cities like Montreal, San Francisco, and New York. How do you tailor your setlist for different audiences, and how do these cities inspire you creatively?

In all honesty, I always wing every set. The only plan I have is to showcase a lot of new music and bring the energy through the roof! I always get inspired when I travel to new places and hang out with new people, so I’ll probably make a lot of music during this tour.

You’ve performed at massive festivals like EDC and iconic superclubs like Amnesia, but this tour seems very personal. How does playing in intimate venues compare to these massive gatherings, and what unique energy do you find in those settings?

I love club shows; you feel the connection, and it’s almost like we are all DJing together sometimes. Festivals are amazing, and it’s always a cool experience. But there’s always something special with a good club show. It’s more intimate, you know.

Having played in some of the most famous clubs and festivals around the world, which venue or city has surprised you the most in terms of energy and crowd interaction?

There are so many, but on top of my mind, I would say Prague and London are two crazy party locations that never fail to surprise me every time.

Touring can be exhausting. How do you stay creatively fueled during long runs, and do you have any rituals that help you maintain your energy for performances night after night?

What helps me is that I look at touring a bit like a sport. I work out every day, I don’t drink alcohol, and I always eat a clean and balanced diet. The sleeping part is always the tricky part, but over the years I’ve learned to check out pretty easily on flights and use travel time to catch up on sleep.

Your sound is powerfully melodic, techno-fueled, and cinematic. How has your sound evolved over the years, and what elements of your early influences still shape your music today?

My sound today is definitely becoming more inspired by the music that I was making about 19 years ago when I first started producing, which is a cool full circle. I’m also implementing sounds I’ve done over the years to hopefully create something a bit personal and signature.

Your remix of John Dahlbäck’s “Blink” is a huge statement for your sound. What drew you to this iconic track, and what unique elements of your own style did you inject into ‘Blink’?

Blink was a big track for me when I first started producing. I remember feeling really inspired when I first heard the original. Then one day, I randomly heard it again and got the vision straight away for how I could remix it. I wanted to keep the bassline focused but just add more of my Hot Teknō style. Staying true to the original but with some KAAZE flavor. That song is a forever classic to me, and I’m stoked I got to put my stamp on it.

How do you balance your artistic freedom with the commercial demands that come with being an internationally recognized DJ and producer?

Right now, I don’t think too much about anything. I’m letting the universe guide KAAZE while I’m simply only focusing on making the best music possible.

You’ve worked with a wide range of artists, from David Guetta to Sam Smith. Are there any collaborations that have particularly influenced your approach to music or changed the way you create?

I would say there are always small pieces that inspire me after working on collaborations. I can’t really pinpoint something, but it all adds up to what you do next. David Guetta has a big influence on me, though, because he was the one who got me into house music as a child.

Are there any specific genres or elements within electronic music that you’re excited to experiment with in future projects?

I have no idea what I will do in the future. As I mentioned, I don’t think too much anymore. And it really works for me. I used to overthink and strategize everything. But now I’m just enjoying and living in the moment. Whatever pops into my head is what I’ll be doing.

Finally, what can fans expect from the rest of The RESONANCE Tour? Any surprises or new material in the pipeline that fans should be looking forward to?

There will definitely be an overload of new music being dropped on this tour. I don’t think I’ve ever had so much unreleased music as I do right now. I’m so excited to meet and party with everyone!
