John Summit ‘s Record Label Faces Rebranding Amidst Legal Dispute
Electronic music artist John Summit has recently found himself entangled in a legal dispute involving his record label, Off The Grid. The conflict arose when a smaller event promoter, Mikey Made Cromie, claimed that Summit‘s label was infringing on his trademark, which he had been using since 2015. As a result, Summit and his team have been forced to consider a rebranding effort for their established label.
The situation came to light after Summit took to social media, posting a tweet expressing his frustration over the matter. He disclosed that he was facing a lawsuit over the use of the “Off The Grid” name, despite the term being a commonly used phrase. He emphasized that he had built the brand entirely on his own, making the legal challenge particularly disheartening.
It was revealed that Cromie had hired an attorney to send a cease-and-desist letter to Summit, demanding that he stop using the name that had been central to his label’s identity. While claims of a seven-figure settlement demand initially surfaced, Cromie later clarified that no such demand had been made. Instead, he stated that he simply wanted Summit to cease using the name and was not willing to sell the rights to it.

According to Cromie, Summit’s management reached out to discuss the possibility of coexistence, which he declined due to the damage already done to his brand. Subsequently, the option to buy the name was presented, but Cromie stood firm, expressing that the label held significant sentimental value and would only consider selling it for a substantial amount.
Despite the conflict and social media exchange, Summit eventually apologized for the public airing of the dispute and expressed his intent to work on rebranding with his team. This decision marks an effort to put an end to the legal dispute and move forward with a fresh identity for the record label.
In the meantime, Off The Grid will continue its regular operations, showcasing its commitment to the electronic music community through the release of a new track from artist Danny Avila. As Summit and his team embark on the rebranding process, the future of the label remains promising, promising an exciting new chapter in their journey within the music industry.
