Announcing Pitchfork Music Film Series
Pitchfork is proud to announce a new film series at the Music Box Theatre in Chicago, showcasing three beloved music movies — 20 Feet From Stardom, I Am Trying to Break Your Heart, and Josie and the Pussycats— followed by extraordinary guests in conversation with Pitchfork contributors and staff ahead of Pitchfork Music Festival 2021.
The film series will run from September 6-8, with one screening each night. The Pitchfork Music Film Series is presented in partnership with White Claw. Tickets are available to the general public now; find tickets here.
20 Feet From Stardom was chosen for screening on September 6 by songwriter/poet Jamila Woods, who will chat with Pitchfork contributor Adrienne Samuel Gibbs after the film to discuss the film, Woods’ career, and how 20 Feet From Stardom informs Woods’ art.
I Am Trying to Break Your Heart, director Sam Jones’ documentary on the recording and release of Wilco’s iconic Yankee Hotel Foxtrot album, will be screened on September 7. Wilco drummer Glenn Kotche will be joined by Pitchfork Features Editor Jillian Mapes to discuss the movie, Kotche’s perspective on the band during that era, and where his and Wilco’s paths have continued.
Josie and the Pussycats celebrates its 20th anniversary this year. The September 8 screening will feature co-directors/writers Deborah Kaplan and Harry Elfont in conversation with Pitchfork Staff Writer Quinn Moreland, discussing the music of the film, its legacy, and its impact on today’s pop culture.
All attendees aged 12 and older attending the Pitchfork Music Film Series will need to be fully inoculated against COVID-19, or have proof of a negative PCR test within the past 24 hours of the screening they are attending. In accordance with CDC and CDPH guidelines we strongly recommend and encourage attendees to wear a mask except when actively eating or drinking. These guidelines are subject to change based on city and public health guidance.
