Depeche Mode’s New M Concert Film Brings Mexico City Magic to Cinemas and IMAX
Depeche Mode are giving fans a chance to relive one of the most emotionally charged chapters in their career with M, a new concert film set for worldwide cinema and IMAX screenings starting October 28. After its Tribeca Film Festival premiere earlier this year, the film will now reach audiences across the globe, offering more than just a live performance — it’s an immersion into the band’s artistry and their profound bond with Mexico.
Directed by award-winning filmmaker Fernando Frias, M moves beyond the usual tour documentary format. While the core is built around three sold-out nights at Mexico City’s Foro Sol Stadium in September 2023, the film weaves in cultural depth, exploring mortality and memory through the lens of Mexico’s traditions. Dave Gahan calls it “about the deep connection between music, culture, and people,” crediting Frias with capturing the raw energy and humanity that defined those shows.
The performances were part of the global Momento Mori tour, the first to follow the passing of founding member Andy Fletcher. That loss hangs over the film, adding layers of poignancy and resilience to a setlist that already carried existential weight.
Tickets go on sale September 17, and for longtime fans, this is more than just a concert replay; it’s a rare opportunity to see Depeche Mode’s sound and vision scaled for the cinematic experience. Coming off last year’s Anton Corbijn–directed “Before We Drown” video, M reinforces that Depeche Mode are still evolving creatively, even after four decades of redefining electronic music.
