Erykah Badu, Wilco’s Mikael Jorgensen, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Launching New Sonos Radio Stations
Sonos Radio has announced a string of upcoming stations and shows, including programs hosted by Erykah Badu, Wilco’s Mikael Jorgensen, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, and more.
Badu will helm Badubotron Radio, a show curated to induce relaxation and the “exploration of the mind, body, and soul,” as it says in press materials. Badu added that her station will be “something that inspires [listeners] to peace… or war, or whatever they may need.” She also said, Music makes me feel soooo great. There are billions and trillions of atomic memories in these notes.” The show is slated to launch in late October.
Kareem Abdul-Jabbar will host the new Impulse! Records station, commemorating the 60th anniversary of the iconic jazz label. The legendary basketball player, jazz historian, and activist will discuss the genre’s role in his upbringing and its roots in African American culture. “Jazz is like a mighty river running through the history of the African American community,” he said in a press release. “It’s been feeding and nurturing us since it came alive in the late 1800s in New Orleans. It’s a celebration of who we are and what we’ve been through as well as an inspiration that binds us. The Impulse! Records station is going to revive jazz for those who already appreciate it and introduce it to a new generation.”
Sonos has also announced a new sleep station, composed and mastered by Wilco’s Mikael Jorgensen. Back in June, Brian Eno debuted his own Sonos Radio HD station called The Lighthouse.
