Exclusive Interview With Gifted Hip-Hop Artist Auston Martin
Supreme talent Auston Martin drops debut single, “Up and Down,” an upbeat classic that’s perfect for a summer jam. The Virginia-based musician has been making a name for himself with his recent single and fans around the world cannot wait to see what’s next for the talented musician. Luckily, we got to interview the future star as he shares his process and thoughts after the release of “Up and Down.”
How was the process of making your upbeat single “Up and Down”?
I’d been listening to a lot of other artists with island vibes like “Distance” by Omarian. Up & Down came out of my working relationship with my producer and we like to vibe and create as we go. We wanted to make something fun and catchy and the lyrics came to me as I felt the beat.
What kind of songs were your inspiration in terms of genres and eras?
I pull from everything and listen to a lot of Rn’B, Soul, Hip Hop, Alternative Music, and more. I don’t really stay in just one era or genre, I like to mix it up.
The chorus is incredibly catchy and well-crafted with the different pitched vocals, could you tell us about the process of coming up with it?
I appreciate you. It all came from freestyles. When I’m first running through a beat with scratch vocals I don’t really record actual words, it’s more melodies and sounds and then I write from there. Sometimes, for harmonies, we just try out a lot of different combos and see what feels right.
Besides singing, what would be your strongest suit in the process of creating music?
I’m not sure I could choose. It’s a big process that all works together. Before the actual singing and final vocals, there’s a lot of writing and melody to figure out.
What are your desired milestones as a recording artist?
Each achievement is a milestone. Once I accomplish one thing, it’s on to the next. I’m never satisfied, there’s always more work to do.
What would you have been if you weren’t a musician or business executive?
That’s a hard question to answer. I do a lot of different things, gotta pay the bills, but music is my heart.
