How San Holo’s Label bitbird Is Building Community Through Music with “create together vol. 5”
While much of the electronic music industry chases algorithms and fleeting viral hits, bitbird is carving a different path—one rooted in collaboration, trust, and the raw joy of creation. Now in its fifth edition, create together, the boundary-pushing compilation series from San Holo’s forward-thinking label, continues to showcase what happens when artists are brought together by purpose rather than metrics.
What began in 2019 as a one-month online challenge has evolved into a full-fledged cultural moment. With this year’s volume—co-created with decentralized streaming platform Audius—bitbird gathered over 170 global participants, culminating in a 28-track release that transcends genre, geography, and expectation.
At the core of create together is a simple but radical idea: that artists, even total strangers, can come together in digital spaces and make something deeply human. Powered entirely through the label’s Discord server, the series invites producers, vocalists, and visual artists to collaborate openly, freely, and without ego.
“The beauty of this project is that it’s never just about the music,” said Thorwald van den Akker, bitbird’s creative director. “It’s about trust. It’s about building a space where people feel safe to experiment and connect with each other.”
The fifth installment proves that ethos hasn’t changed. From the glitchy bounce of Kaiyo’s “RAINBOWS” to the cathartic hyperpop of lillybug’s “PETTTT,” and the dreamy electro-meets-synthwave soundscape of euphee, Disphing and HYPERSPVCE’s “land on my feet ~,” the compilation is a kaleidoscope of emotional and sonic textures.
