BRUX’s New EP ‘CA$HED UP’ Is a Wild Ride Through New York
In a city that thrives on speed and spectacle, BRUX has found a way to mirror the madness with music that grabs you by the collar and doesn’t let go. Her new EP CA$HED UP, out now on LuckyMe, is less a collection of songs and more a sonic mood board for urban survival—a raw, chaotic, and slyly satirical take on life in New York City.
Since relocating from Sydney to New York in 2021, BRUX has soaked in the city’s manic energy and spat it back out in four fiercely genre-warping tracks. With collaborators like Baauer, DJ ADHD, and Surya Sen, CA$HED UP skates the edge of house, techno, Jersey club, UK bass, post-dubstep, and breakbeat—all without sounding like it’s trying too hard to tick boxes. Instead, it pulses with the urgency and tension of a late-night subway ride or a rush-hour sprint across Delancey Street.
The title track, first teased back in March, sets the tone with a kind of anxious swagger. BRUX described it as “fuelled by the aggressions of New York City life,” and the production backs that up: distorted basslines grind against clattering percussion, while a neon-lit synthline winks through the grime like a bodega sign after midnight.
In many ways, CA$HED UP feels like a natural evolution of BRUX’s previous work—the attitude of SANDWICHES, the grit of U KNOW, and her club-minded sensibility all converge here. But this time, the gloves are off. She’s not just making club music; she’s staging an audio protest against monotony, seriousness, and the grind itself.
CA$HED UP is an essential listen for anyone who’s ever felt overwhelmed and energized by city life, and especially for those of us who like our beats dirty, our basslines mean, and our metaphors biting.
