Funkin Matt Channels Gaming Nostalgia in New Track “Perfect Dark”

Funkin Matt ‘s new track, “Perfect Dark,” seamlessly blends nostalgia for childhood and contemporary club culture. The song is a cut from his Nostalgia EP. The EP, born out of his trip to Canada’s Shambhala Festival, captures the mystical, surreal essence of a rave in the forest.

“Perfect Dark” is an Afro-house and cinematic synth mix with the depth of Funkin Matt‘s early Dutch house heritage. The EP is an ode to late-night gaming marathons and the discovery of new music as a kid, reimagining ’90s and early ’00s sounds in modern guise. “This is the heaviest tune on the EP,” Funkin Matt explains. “Each percussion hit is important, and there’s no fat—just rhythm and power.”

The Nostalgia EP has already gained support from industry leaders like Oliver Heldens, Martin Garrix, and Don Diablo, solidifying its appeal among both veteran clubbers and new ravers. The final song of the EP, “MiniDisc”, will drop on April 11, 2025, finishing this ambitious project.
