The rumor mill started churning when Thomas Jolly, the artistic director of the Olympics’ opening ceremony in Paris, mentioned in an interview that he would be “very happy” if Daft Punk were part of the ceremony. However, he later admitted that he had “lied a little about Daft Punk.”
Adding fuel to the fire, a report by the French newspaper Le Parisien claimed that an anonymous source revealed Daft Punk had met with the Olympic planning committee “several months ago.”
Despite these rumors reaching a fever pitch among fans, a representative for Daft Punk has set the record straight, stating, “This is a rumor and not true.”
In response to the denial, Thomas Jolly took to social media (referred to as X, formerly Twitter) to share a statement of his own, expressing respect for Daft Punk’s decision and apologizing for the ambiguity of his comments.
It seems that for now, the hopes of a Daft Punk reunion at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris have been dashed.
